NEW SERVICE NSC UKPT- NEW DIRECT CONNECTION WITH LIVERPOOL

February 14, 2023

W.E.C. Lines is proud to announce that we continue to invest in the markets of Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
W.E.C. Lines is improving routes, frequency and transit time to
Your clients.

The new North Spain Canary Islands and UK Portugal service will begin on February 18, 2023 with the first ship MV WEC Van Ruysdael sailing from Bilbao to Liverpool, with a transit time between both ports of only 3 days. In order to guarantee a weekly frequency, the service will have 3 ships in rotation, WEC Jan Steen, WEC Van Vermeer and WEC Van Ruysdael.

This route thus offers new direct connections to customers in the Canary Islands and the Iberian Peninsula with the British port of Liverpool. Via Liverpool Ireland and Scotland will also be covered.
Valencia, Madrid, Zaragoza and Barcelona are served with WEC Lines trains via Bilbao, and Gijón with feeder via Vigo. Seville and Burgos are also included in the service expansion plan, whose trains will soon enter circulation.

This new service adds to the existing ones between Portugal and Spain with the United Kingdom and Northern Europe, reinforcing the Shortsea Shipping Service that W.E.C. Lines offers to the market, with the aim of supporting international trade with low carbon emissions in the European area.

Capacity and Service upgrade Bilbao/UK/NWC service

June 7, 2021

Rotterdam, 7th of June 2021

W.E.C. Lines has upgraded its current Bilbao service with a direct call from Bilbao to the UK, Thamesport. Simultaneously W.E.C. Lines will increase the capacity to 835 TEU weekly with Mv Van Eyck that was acquired last year October. This service is linked to the main areas in Spain like Madrid, Zaragoza, Barcelona and Valencia with rail services tailored to the needs of the customers.
Caesar Luikenaar, Head of Line Management of W.E.C. Rotterdam said:
“This is major milestone in the success story of W.E.C. and further cements our position as carrier of choice on the short sea trades of Portugal, Spain and Morocco”.
WEC Lines has been steadily growing its market share between Spain, UK and North West Continent since January 2021 as more cargo owners see the benefit of converting freight from the traditional and costly trailer routes to the flexible and cost, carbon friendly modality of containers.
The Spanish short sea market has offered cargo owners little choice historically and WEC Lines is changing that with an innovative new direct service.
Roger Megann Managing Director of W.E.C. UK said:
“Our customers have sought a fresh new direct call in the UK from Bilbao and WEC Lines has obliged the demand of the market with this new direct service”.
Following Brexit the historical short sea routes from Spain have been congested and supply chains have been damaged. WEC Lines and Port of Thamesport offers a market leading transit time of 72 hours and congestion free UK port.

SUCCESS OF THE NEW WEC LINES SERVICE

February 5, 2021

Last January 19, we had the first successful call of the MV Freya in the port of Bilbao, both in its maritime operations and in the train that completes the service in Spain to cover the Central, Valencia, Aragon and Catalonia areas. We already had the third call showing an increasing trend of users choosing this new service between Spain and the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, Norway and Poland.

The success of the service is thanks to a market demand requiring this new option in the European Shortsea, as well as to the support of the ports, maritime terminals, railways and operators involved in this fantastic project.
